This course will provide an introduction to the theory and application of basic statistical concepts used in the Geosciences. Topics include probability, probability distributions, measurement uncertainties and error propogation, linear regression, hypothesis testing (t-test, Chi-square test, Analysis of variance ANOVA), Principal Component Analysis, Cluster analysis, and Monte Carlo methods. Emphasis is given to problem solving through weekly homework assignments.
